(11/3/14 - 11/6/14) Days Three & Four: Habits & Paradigms & Principles
We started class by revisiting the concepts of fixed vs. growth mindsets. After a short evaluative activity and class discussion, we begin delving into our text The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. We read from the "Who am I?" poem that prefaces the book through the top of pg. 16. We stopped, discussed, and independently reflected on several topics. For example...
- on pg. 5 - How can you connect the IB Learner Profile traits and/or the ATL skills to each of the 7 habits listed?
- on pg. 8 - What are good, bad, and non-essential habits that you have? Create a 3-column chart and list those habits.
- on pg. 9 - How do you hope the 7 Habits helps you most? Why?
- on pg. 12 - What is the most idiotic and hilarious quote out of the 10 listed in your opinion? Why?
- on pg. 15 - Who is someone you have in your life that "cleans your glasses" and supports you?

(11/10/14 - 11/14/14) Days 5, 6, and 7: Habit 1: Be Proactive!

Introduction of the Design Cycle Group Project and Inquiring & Analyzing Task
Introduction of the Design Cycle Group Project and Inquiring & Analyzing Task
***In order to do Step 2 of the Inquiring & Analyzing Task, make sure you've completed all of the items on the checklist for Step 1.
In a nutshell, you must:
____ Read the assigned chapter
____ Take Cornell notes on the chapter
____ Discuss the chapter with your group
(Use the example questions to help)
____ Evaluate the main ideas and decide which
ones your group will teach, and which ones
your group will not teach. Make sure you
can thoroughly justify your group's choices.
***Remember: all parts of the Design Cycle will be assessed individually. It is very important that everyone comes to the conference prepared & speaks equally!

Tips for Successful Cooperative Learning:
- Use your ELO time to be productive as a group. You can ask the ELO teacher of one group mate to write the other members a pass to come work in his/her classroom OR you can ask Ms. B. for passes to work together collaboratively in the library. Make sure to ask for these passes BEFORE 2nd block.
- Communicate outside of class. Email your group mates often. Come to 203 and work after school as a group on days Ms. B. has open work days from 2:45-3:30.
- Check out the PDF below on 'Language for Group Discussion'. There are fantastic sentence starters that can be really useful for speaking kindly, intelligently, and honestly with your group mates.
- Touch base with Ms. B. if you have any questions. Don't sit there in confusion if your group isn't sure about something. Try to figure it out together first, and then seek help from Ms. B. (in class, after/before school, via email [email protected]) if necessary!

(11/24/14 and 11/26/14) Days Ten and Eleven: DEVELOPING IDEAS
Everything your group needs to develop ideas for your group's lesson can be found in a Google Folder that I've created for your group.
Before clicking on the link below, please read and understand the following terms of academic honesty:
1) You should only access and use the materials in your group's folder.
2) Copying and pasting ideas from the internet is plagiarism. Do not do it.
3) You should cite any sources from which you and your group gets ideas for your lesson.
**Please note: Ms. B. can see who has edited each document. She will be checking often.

For the Plan task, I expect everyone to do this step collaboratively using Google Docs.
This is an efficient way to work together because:
- you can and will contribute your individual ideas at the same time
- you can color code your work, assigning each group mate a color to type in
- each group mate will have access to the plan at all times and from any location with Internet access*
- each person will be responsible for adding modifications to the plan throughout the process

THE PLAN should be established BEFORE MOVING ON TO THE CREATE PHASE.
THE PLAN should be modified along the way as you evaluate to make sure you have the most effective lesson possible to meet the design specification.
Modifications need to be documented. Jot down a note to explain your reasoning and the date the decisions were made.
Any questions when you're not at school? Shoot me an email:

(12-9-13) Day Twelve: Creating the Solution
Teamwork is huge! Remember that you're all trying to accomplish a group goal, and it takes individual members contributions to add up to something great!
Tips for a happy team:
Tips for a happy team:
- compliment someone for a job well done or a good idea shared when deserved
- ask for your teammates' opinions and advice
- work diligently - be on task - no one likes to feel like they're a peer's babysitter
- speak respectfully to one another - use the discussion starters (white sheet)
Does your team need another idea for an engaging and purposeful activity?
